On October 24, join people all over the world
to take a stand for a safe climate future.
FutureWold Eco-technology center is hosting a (FREE) open day as part of this climate action.
Where: Lot 5, Northcliffe Drive Warrawong
When: 11am to 2pm on 24th October 2009
There’s going to be a sausage (or veggie option) sizzle. Climate Girl, as well as our volunteers will be around to answer any questions people might have.
“We’re having an open day on Saturday the 24th of October as part of the 350 Global Day of Climate action. On this day over 2000 events will be hosted in over 150 countries to lend community support to the idea that 350ppm CO2 levels is the line in the sand as far as safe atmospheric levels are concerned (we’re currently at approximately 389). We’re not aiming to be an angry mob, but we believe that this is a practical, achievable and urgent goal that we can all embrace. We will of course also be promoting practical, local solutions to environmental problems, as we do everyday. With Copenhagen only six weeks away we would like the Illawarra to be represented in this global initiative.” – FutureWorld Eco-Technology Center

What Green Power Technology can a hard drive deliver?
We all live in a digital age, so its good to know that we can make environmentally responsible decision over the type of hardware we choose.
Well it seems that Western Digital has embraced environmental sustainability and have developed hard drives that deliver an average power saving of 4 – 5 watts over standard desktop drives while maintaining solid performance.
That’s a CO2 reducing in about 60 kg per drive per year! -which is the equilavant of taking your car off the road for 14 days each day. Not only does it help the environment, but such reduced energy usage also lowers your electricity bill!
It’s a win-win situation for both the environment and your pocket!

I’ve been accepted for the Sustainable Illawarra Super Challenge!!!
http://www.sustainableillawarra.com.au/
It’ll be an amazing 12 months challenge from June 2009 until June 2010 where I’ll be making my journey with other super challenge participants towards sustainability together!
I’ve already set 3 sustainability goals to achieve as part of the challenge and they are:
- I like to be able to grow some of my own veggies in the balcony area.
- To switch to energy efficient lights and also to switch to ‘green cleaning’.
- To do something even though I live in a unit, to make a difference and to get on the path to sustainability.
As part of the super challenge, I’ll have opportunities to attend sustainability workshops and events.

Why did I get into the Sustainable Illawarra Super Challenge?
I have a colleague who’s passionate about suburban household sustainability.
http://green-change.com/
He’s been doing this for quite a while now and was involved in the first Super Challenge.
Having heard all the things he has done towards a sustainable lifestyle made me realized that it is easier than what I had initially thought it would take. He’s doing his part to help the environment by reducing his carbon footprint and he’s having fun doing it too!
So now is my turn to embark on this Super Challenge…
